Bliss ‘n Eso are an hip hop trio from Australia (though Bliss is actually US-born). They’ve been getting increasing amounts of hype all over the world. Tragically, their biggest tour so far was opening for 50 Lil’ Jon, which really isn’t that impressive in the grand scheme of things.
But, fiddy-hate aside, I understand that unknown artists gotta do what they got to do in order to make it, so I’m not going to fault them for touring with them.
It’s oddly difficult to describe their style while avoiding the inevitable comparisons with other big Aussie-hop groups like 1200 Techniques.
Bliss ‘n’ Eso have a way more political style to them. They don’t shy away from some of the rawer issues. Apparently, for the video shown below, they went to South Africa for the Make Poverty History and Schools4Schools program. They’ve even announced plans to donate proceeds from the single below to the Oaktree Foundation.
Check out their MySpace page for a couple of more tracks, but here’s their biggest song to date, “Bullet and a Target”
They’ve definitely gotten their share of hate, people claiming they’re “sellouts” and all the same kind of politics everyone gets. And maybe they aren’t the dopest group ever, but I wouldn’t go so far as to say they’re awful either.
Either way, take a listen and make up your mind for yourself.
