What makes them so amusing?  For one, they’re three white Canadians rapping about things like hockey and orange juice.  And, well, Tom Green is one of them.

That alone is worth a laugh.  But still, somehow they’ve captured the hearts of some weird subset of the population.

Either way, they are lighthearted and can definitely be fun.  Something to take your mind off things these days.

BET was holding a little talking heads show that involved Soulja Boy and KRS-One discussing their different perceptions on what hip hop means.

Just to prove my point, Soulja Boy apparently views 50 Cent as “old school”.  Tell me it’s hard not to bristle at that.

KRS-One had this to say:

“It’s easy to sit behind a computer and diss and talk. But to meet a man face to face and say ‘look, we appreciate you, we respect you, but this is where we need you to be to keep our legacy alive.’ Soulja Boy respected that totally.”

In case you’re wondering, the “sit behind a computer” comment is squarely aimed at Ice-T.  On this one, I’m probably going to have to side against you, KRS.  I think Soulja Boy is not the way to go.  I don’t welcome him to hip hop, but I appreciate him getting people to have a good time.  His style is just not what hip hop means to me, on a personal level.

Still, nice to see people out there actually discussing things like rational adults.

Gizmodo reports on a post by gHacks that says all you have to do is put the mp3s you want to combine into a file folder, then run the command line (go to start –> run –> then type “cmd”)

Make sure you navigate to the directory your files are in, and type the following:

copy /b *.mp3 c:\new.mp3

Replace “new.mp3″ with whatever you want to call it: “Twices mp3 mixtown madness funstop with pancakes.mp3″ or whatever you want.

The Los Angeles Times has a little piece on Travis Barker’s new gig.  For those of you who don’t know/remember him, Barker was once the drummer of Blink 182.

I know, tons of street cred, right?  But seriously.  He’s always been a talented drummer and recently has gained some notoriety for having survived a plane crash with his musical partner, DJ AM.

As well, he’s been slowly been getting more and more into hip hop.  Besides performing as TRV$DJAM, Barker has become the latest YouTube celebrity.  What all started as his jamming along to Soulja Boy on the drums (terrible choice, I know) and innocently uploaded has become a huge hit.  The video, posted below, has 20 million hits. That’s just absurd (nothing compared to the 100 million views this unrelated video has), but just goes to show how much the internet has changed things.

Since this video came out, he’s been approached by other big hip hop stars to ‘remix’ their songs by drumming along to them.  He’s done it for Flo Rida, Busta Rhymes, and Rhianna.  Only one out of those is someone I’d consider hip hop, but that’s besides the point.

Same-sex marriage was legalized in California a few short months ago.  Proposition 8 was a referendum designed to amend the state constitution to restrict marriage as being between a man and a woman, and therefore overturn the decision of the California Supreme Court.

This is an issue I’ve never understood, mainly because I don’t see how it affects anyone other than the people trying to get married.  I understand completely that many people have religious objections to same-sex marriage and are therefore personally opposed to it.  That’s fine, but the disconnect is how that needs to force others not to be married.

In Canada, for example, same-sex marriage is illegal.  And yet, as part of the law, no religious organization (read: church, synagogue, temple, mosque, pagan flower circle or anything else) can be forced to perform the marriage.  No one is forcing anyone to go “against” their religious beliefs.  But same-sex couples are still allowed to marry.  And yet in California, a right that was so recently granted to these couples has been abruptly taken away.

Keith Olbermann, the left-wing Bill O’Reilly, is not someone I generally pay much attention to.  I hate demagoguery of any sort an have no patience for Olbermann’s arrogant style.  But he does make a surprisingly erudite grasp of the situation and actually phrases his concerns in a way that mirror my own.  Take a look.

These papers were dated July 4, 2009 and triumphantly announce the end of the Iraq war.   The Yes Men went through all the trouble of actually printing physical copies of this fake newspaper at subway stations and other areas around New York, LA, Philly and other major cities.

A brilliant ploy and one that I think worthy of repeating.  Read more here if you’re interested.

We all know Andre is a bit of an eccentric character, so I can only imagine what type of concept he can come up with. In his words:

“I have a concept, and all the soundscapes are already in my head, so I just have to figure out how to get there.”

It’s nice to know he’s getting back into music, because he’s really been going all out to support his movie career in the last few years.  Hell, I’m sure being in a movie with Will Ferrell has gotta be good for your creativity, but I’m hoping he manages to put this to good use.

Details are sketchy on exactly what the ‘concept’ is.  But from a man who, in Big Boi’s words, considers himself cooler than a polar bear’s toenails, you know it has to be good.
